NBA Tickets - The Other 2010 Free Agents
Much fuss has been made about LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh potentially hitting free agency in the summer of 2010, and rightfully so, but there are a lot of other really good players that could hit free agency next offseason and are being overlooked due to the hype surrounding these three. Here are some guys that could be free agents other than James, Wade and Bosh.
Amare Stoudemire, Power Forward, Phoenix Suns: Stoudemire is probably the best player that could be available next summer outside of the three aforementioned guys. He’s got an early termination option that he’s all but a lock to exercise and will probably be looking for a change in scenery after Phoenix shopped him at the trade deadline this past season. He’s a quality big man and can sell a lot of NBA tickets with his thunderous dunks.
Dirk Nowitzki, Power Forward, Dallas Mavericks: Nowitzki has an early termination option, but he’s likely to extend his deal with the Mavs as Mark Cuban loves him as the organization’s franchise player. Still, he could be out there if things change in Big D.
Yao Ming, Center, Houston Rockets: Yao has an early termination option as well, but it’s unlikely he exercises it now that he’s set to miss most, if not all, of the 2009-10 season. He’ll need a Year back to prove to teams he’s recovered.
Paul Pierce, Shooting Guard, Boston Celtics: Pierce has an ETO but he’s probably a Celtic for life.
Joe Johnson, Shooting Guard, Atlanta Hawks: Johnson and the Hawks are talking extension, but teams will come running if he hits free agency. He can play and guard three positions, one of which is the point.
Carlos Boozer, Power Forward, Utah Jazz: Boozer will get looks from any team that needs help scoring in the post. He should be a coveted guy.
Brandon Roy, Shooting Guard, Portland Trail Blazers: Roy can be a restricted free agent next summer if the team doesn’t extend him. Obviously they’re trying to, but word is that Roy wants a max contract and the Blazers are trying to give him a little less.
LaMarcus Aldridge, Power Forward, Portland Trail Blazers: Aldridge would be restricted if the Blazers don’t lock him up before then, which is unlikely.
Rudy Gay, Small Forward, Memphis Grizzlies: Gay will be a restricted free agent, and it’s unlikely the Grizzlies pay his asking price, which will probably be considerable. Teams will be drooling over this swingman’s athleticism and versatility.
Rajon Rondo, Point Guard, Boston Celtics: I would not be surprised to see Rondo hit restricted free agency next summer. Apparently Doc Rivers thinks he’s uncoachable. Other teams won’t care.
Tyson Chandler, Center, Charlotte Bobcats: Chandler will get looks form teams looking for interior defense.
Richard Jefferson, Small Forward, San Antonio Spurs: Jefferson could use his ETO, but if he wants to win he’ll stay with San Antonio for the extra year.
Tyrus Thomas, Power Forward, Chicago Bulls: Thomas will be a restricted free agent, and it’s unclear whether he’ll be back with the Bulls.
Ronnie Brewer, Guard/Forward, Utah Jazz: The Jazz will probably try to lock this quality role player up before he hits RFA.
Randy Foye, Guard, Washington Wizards: Foye will be restricted as well.
Manu Ginobili, Shooting Guard, San Antonio Spurs: Ginobili is deteriorating physically, which will be a red flag for teams.
Shaquille O’Neal, Center, Cleveland Cavaliers: Shaq has one more contract left in him.
Ray Allen, Shooting Guard, Boston Celtics: Allen could be a nice piece for someone as he finishes out his career.
Tracy McGrady, Shooting Guard, Houston Rockets: McGrady can still play when healthy.
Marcus Camby, Center, Los Angeles Clippers: Camby is getting up there in age, but he can still defend the paint.
