The Chicago Fire are on a roll, they have won five consecutive games. The club recorded their fourth straight shutout and Patrick Nyarko found the back of the net to defeat Real Salt Lake 1-0. Fire defender Bakary Soumare said that if you don’t concede goals, you can’t lose. The midfielder then drove the ball into the center of the box, where Nyarko freed himself from a defender and hammered a shot off his head which deflected the left post and went into the back of the net. The forward is seeing increased playing time after U.S. national team star Brian McBride underwent shoulder surgery. He will be out for the next four months. Prior to the injury, Nyarko had been used on the right wing. Chicago head coach Denis Hamlett told his club that after McBride’s injury, the team would be different.

He added that Patrick is fast, but most people don’t realize how fast the forward is, and he knows how to use his body to get inside a defender. The team had a golden opportunity in the 72nd minute when Tony Beltran rifled a shot from 20 yards out, but the ball hit the crossbar. RSL coach Jason Kreis said he felt like his team played well enough to earn a draw. The coach is serving the first of his two-game suspension for arguing with officials in their 4-2 victory over Dallas.
